Where to Look in a Hotel before You Check Out
It happens to the best of us. We get home from an out-of-town stay and realize we left something behind. Sadly, one last sweep of the room could have prevented it. But sometimes we just don’t know where to look—so let us help with that.
Next time you check out of a hotel, glance in the places below. Even if you do not remember placing items in these spots, take a few seconds to confirm it. You’ll thank yourself later!
Under the Bed
As children, we feared what lived under the bed. As adults, we know under the bed provides storage space. Thus, many hotel-goers instinctually hide their things there, then forget about them.
When changing clothes in a hotel, we often through our laundry onto the bed, too. Sometimes our clothes get tangled up in the sheets and lost in the linens. After checking under the bed, peek inside its covers for stray apparel.
In the Bathroom
For overnight stays, we unpack our toiletries in the hotel bathroom. When separated from the rest of our stuff, it’s easy to forget to them. Especially since the towels and appliances belong to the hotel, the bathroom is a commonly overlooked area.
In the Safe
Many hotels encourage their guests to store their valuables in the safe. Unfortunately, people forget cash and jewellery there all the time. When checking the closest, open the safe to verify it’s empty.
In the Outlets
Who doesn’t travel with a smartphone, tablet, camera or laptop? Since such devices need charging, we use the outlets in our rooms. Before leaving, make sure your wires aren’t plugged into the wall. Depending on the device, the replacement might exceed $50.
In the Drawers
Like the closet, drawers offer a great place to keep our clothes from wrinkling in the suitcase. Whatever you put into the drawers, be sure to take back out. Open all drawers in the dresser and nightstand in case you moved stuff around on yourself.
