Tips for Picking Meaningful Souvenirs

For many travellers, souvenirs can be a fun way of bringing a small piece of the trip home; however, if we aren’t careful about what we select, we can end up with items collecting dust. Here are tips for picking meaningful souvenirs, that will continue to provide you with positive memories of your trip upon returning home!

Can (and Will) You Wear it Regularly?

If you’re buying something that can be worn, does it have a practical element to it? For instance, it may not be wise to purchase a thick wool sweater if you live in a hot climate.

In addition to practicality, don’t forget your personal style when choosing souvenirs. Jackets, scarves and jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc.) can all make excellent souvenirs; however, don’t just pick something that looks cool in the moment. Really consider if you see yourself wearing it throughout your daily life.

Is it a Good Representation of Your Travel Destination?

The whole concept behind a souvenir is to have a memento to remind you of something. When it comes to travelling, try to collect souvenirs that are good representations of where you travelled to. For instance, if you’re looking at a jacket or bracelet, was it made by the locals and reflect the local culture?

Does it Possess True Beauty or Unique Make?

Now, to say all souvenirs that can’t be worn or don’t serve a practical use, are pointless would be severe, but this doesn’t mean you should just grab every knick-knack that you see. Consider collecting truly unique pieces that can be hung on a wall or be the centerpiece on a table.

At the end of the day, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and no one can tell you what makes a great souvenir more than you!
