The Brunch Phenomenon

Brunch is one of those phenomenons that became a thing and then never stopped being a thing. It rose slowly and then all at once, suddenly becoming the thing everyone is doing. The history of brunch is brief but interesting, and it doesn’t seem to be falling in trend. In fact, brunch is becoming trendier and trendier.

What is brunch?

Brunch is a meal that is typically eaten between breakfast and lunch. In fact, the word brunch is a blend, or portmanteau, of the words “breakfast” and “lunch”; similar to “Brangelina” and “Bennifer”. Brunch includes foods that are like breakfast foods but with a twist: cheese grits, sausage and cheese, muffins, French toast and fruit, casserole with eggs, etc. Brunch is also known to be an excuse to enjoy a morning Bloody Mary or Mimosa without being given questioning looks.

What is the purpose of brunch?

Brunch really serves no other purpose than to make up a reason to eat between breakfast and lunch. Whoever invented brunch was obviously a genius. Some people use brunch as a time to catch up with friends on a Sunday (when brunch is typically most popular to be enjoyed) or for those night owls who don’t enjoy waking up early enough for breakfast. I’d say that brunch is just another excuse to go out and eat delicious food and drink delicious drinks.

What will brunch do for me?

Brunch, like any other time you go out for a meal, will make you feel better. Have you ever wondered why people started enjoying going out for meals rather than staying home? Excluding the factor of being too lazy to cook; dining out used to be an activity that only the affluent would take part in as it was attached to status and the desire to be seen. Things have since changed and dining out is more affordable than ever, but the sentiment remained. Most people still associate going out for dinner with a special occasion, and special occasions make people happy. So why wouldn’t you include something new in your life that makes you happy?

And no, you don’t have to be a guest at the hotel in order to enjoy the restaurants and bars they have to offer. You can make reservations of pop in for some delicious brunch any day of the week.
