Staying hydrated is essential to maintaining your health and enabling all of your bodily systems, such as your immune system, to function properly. The fluids we drink, especially water, are used to regulate our body temperature and ensure that nutrients and waste are moved appropriately throughout the body. 

During vacation, when you may be walking more frequently and spending more time in the sun than you usually do, staying hydrated becomes even more important. The following advice will be very helpful in staying hydrated!

Avoid Sugar-Rich Drinks

Although sugary drinks may be refreshing initially, these beverages are harder for the body to process than water. Because of this, your organs will use more water to process the sugary beverage. The faster your body uses water the faster you will become thirsty again.

Drink Coconut Water

Coconut water is another terrific source of hydration. This liquid contains natural electrolytes and potassium, which helps us to stay hydrated for longer periods of time. This could be especially useful during physical activity. 

Add Chia Seeds to Your Water and Food

Chia seeds have hydrophilic properties, meaning they’re attracted to water. These seeds absorb nine to 12 times their own weight in water. So, by adding chia seeds to your water and food, you’re ensuring your body will stay hydrated over a longer period of time. 

Avoid Caffeine

Caffeine is a diuretic, which means it promotes urine production. When your goal is staying hydrated, caffeine will cause you to lose a lot of water. If you do plan on drinking caffeinated beverages try to incorporate water or hydrating foods to prevent dehydration. 

In addition to watching the liquids you consume, there are certain foods you can eat that will aid in sustaining the fluids in your body and keeping you properly hydrated. To maximize hydration, consume potassium-rich foods such as bananas.
