6 Ways To Stay Active While Traveling
When most people go on a vacation or a road trip, the last thing on their minds is making sure to stay active. They focus more on where to eat dinner every night, what drinks to try, etc. This can lead to fatigue and a lack of energy which can take away from their vacation experience. Staying aware of health and fitness during a vacation is an important part of getting the most out of your traveling experience as possible. But this doesn’t mean that you need to pump iron and run for an hour every day while on vacation, so here are 6 ways to stay active while traveling in a way that is manageable and productive.
1. Explore the city on foot
What a better way to really take in the city you’re visiting than to explore it on foot! Walking can burn lots of calories; a lot more calories than driving. You will be so distracted by all of the wonderful new surroundings and people that you won’t even notice that you’ve been walking for a few hours!
2. Take the stairs
Unless you’ve got lots of baggage with you, taking the stairs can be a great way to incorporate small activities into your day that will up your calorie burn! Choose to take the stairs rather than the elevator at your hotel, or wherever you can, and add a little calorie burn to your day.
3. Choose a hotel with a swimming pool and/or a gym
Swimming is a great way to exercise. It burns a lot of calories and you can do it anywhere that has a pool. Choose a hotel with a pool and enjoy a swim every morning and/or evening as a great way of staying active. Playing volleyball or Marco/Polo is a great way to make it fun so you don’t even realize you’re actually exercising.
4. Take part in the local activities
A great way to fully take in the place you’re visiting is to check out some local hiking groups. If that’s not what you’re into then research some hiking trails and check them out yourself. Hiking is not just great exercise but it’s also very relaxing.
5. Rent a bike
Cycling is a great way to explore a new city or the nature around it. If you’re bored by hiking or walking, renting a bicycle is an inexpensive way to take your exploration to the next level and burn lots of calories.
6. Drink lots of water and don’t overindulge
At the end of the day, the most important part of staying active and fit while on vacation is to keep tabs on how much water you’re drinking and how much you’re overindulging in delicious food. Choose one meal a day to indulge in and keep the rest light. This way you will keep your energy and stay fit.
