5 Best White Noise Apps to Help You Fall Asleep
Falling asleep in a hotel room can be a nightmare for some people. If you’re like me and you suffer from “hotel room insomnia”, there are a few options you can try like exercise and meditation, but you can also get an app for it because this is the kind of world we live in now. White noise apps have been relatively popular for some time now and, if you have one, you know how helpful they can be. If you’ve never tried one or heard of it, noise would seem like a counter-intuitive way to try to fall asleep: you want me to listen to noise to help me sleep? That makes no sense. But if you’ve ever fallen asleep to the sound of a fan going or to the sound of the ocean, you used a type of noise to help you sleep. There are better explanations of what white noise is, but in essence it is a consistent noise that helps you relax and fall asleep. I’ve put together a list of great white noise apps that might help you fall asleep better next time you’re in a hotel room.
1. Noisli
Noisli is supposed to be the best white noise app for the iPhone. It features generic noises like train, beach, campfire, and rain, but the coolest thing about this app is that it lets you combine multiple noises. This white noise app also features a colourful background that slowly morphs into different colours. This app costs $1.99 on App Store but you can also try the free web-app version.
2. Lightning Bug
If you’re more a fan of nature noises, then this app is for you. There are free packs you can download like white noise and pink noise, plus it also features an alarm, a sleep timer, and a snooze button. Free to download at Google Play.
3. Chroma Doze
This app is an Android-only app that generates white noise based on an algorithm that you are able to control. You can choose exactly what kind of white noise you want to help you sleep, it has no ads and it will run in the background of your phone. This app is free on Google Play.
4. Sleep Pillow
This is another white noise app that has 70 HQ recorded sounds like a dryer, bubbling steam, or the sound of wooden wind chimes (my personal favourite). This app is free for iOS or you can purchase the full version for $1.99.
5. White Noise
This app is also pretty cool but it’s slightly more expensive at $2.49 for Android and $1.99 for iPhone. The reason why this app is slightly more expensive is because it is feature-happy. You can create and mix sounds that you can share, record and loop your own sounds, and the sounds slowly fade in which will make you feel refreshed when waking up.
In the end, it doesn’t matter which app or noise you use as long as it works for you. There are many different options for white noise/sleeping apps on Google Play and the Play Store so, if you don’t like any of these, you can choose your own. As long as you’re sleeping better, that’s all that matters.
